At the very end of the premiere of Beethoven’s ninth symphony he had to be turned around to see the thunderous applause behind him and he wept from the reaction. For those who do not know, Beethoven was deaf for a large part of his composing career and never heard many of his greatest works. While St. Louis is not deaf, we did lose our only classical music station KFOU when it was sold and changed formats to JOY FM, leaving a void in classical music lovers’ hearts across the area.
Like Beethoven, beautiful classical music is still around us, we just can’t hear it on the AM/FM dial. To help we have a solution, it’s called a Sonos ZonePlayer. This all-in-one home audio system uses your home Internet system to pick up online radio stations. In fact it’s pre-loaded with over 25,000 stations and is capable of streaming Napster, Pandora, Rhapsody and SIRIUS. Or for those with an extensive classical music collection, it can play music directly off your computer or MP3 player.
A Sonos ZonePlayer requires no installation, and can go anywhere in your home, bringing music to any room in your house wirelessly. Sonos ZonePlayers deliver unmatched audio quality making hisses, crackles and hums a thing of the past, music is without delays and heard with perfect clarity.
For all of you loyal KFOU listeners, this is a solution that can give you back the wide variety of music only a radio station can offer. Don’t be left like Beethoven, unable to hear some off the world’s greatest classical music and crying while others enjoy it.

The Bowers and Wilkins Zeppelin may be named after the famous airships but the similarities stop there. After exploding into the market in 2007 the Zeppelin has been featured in publications like Rolling Stone and USA Today for its superior sound quality as a high-end iPod stereo. What’s the big difference between any other iPod dock and the Zeppelin, the answer is plenty. Just looking at a Zeppelin it is obvious that there is something different. Its sleek, long black design mimics the silhouette of a Zeppelin airship. The design complements the look and feel of an iPod with features such as a mirror-polished stainless steel back.
If the design alone doesn’t blow you away, the sound it delivers might. A Zeppelin is powered by two woofers, two tweeters and five inch subwoofer. The 100 watt iPod stereo can fill any room with crisp music and thumping beats. The Zeppelin’s 25 inch width allows for stereo separation, where music is meant to be heard louder from one speaker than another. The Zeppelin’s weight is even larger than other iPod stereos, weighting in at 16 pounds! The “extra” weight it carries around is a result of a more substantial construction sparing no expense for quality; B&W literally made this a solid design.
The Zeppelin has an iPod cradle similar to other iPod stereos, allowing you to dock your iPod, iPod nano, iPod touch or iPhone. When iPods are docked with the Zeppelin they can be charged for continual use. The Zeppelin also comes with a remote control, an auxiliary-input audio jack, and composite- and S-video output jacks for viewing iPod-hosted video and photos on your TV.
The Zeppelin is one of the best new innovations by Bowers and Wilkins and that’s saying a lot! In the past 50 years they have been making some of the highest quality speakers available. If you want to float away on the music of the Zeppelin, visit The Sound Room in Chesterfield or Creve Coeur!
